California King Bed
For some people, the California King bed is the ideal choice. Few pieces of furniture are more personal than a bed.
This is because, in addition to the fact that each person’s needs for comfortable sleep are different, there are also health considerations involving in the choice of a bed that make its selection critical.
For starters, it’s best to buy the largest affordable bed that will fit a residence’s bedroom, whether home or apartment. Anyone who’s tried to share a “double” bed with a partner knows that a “double” is hardly big enough for one person, given the way most people move about in their sleep. A mere six inches of extra width can mean the different between a good night’s sleep and one that is spent looking for a comfortable position.
California King Bed For A Long Restful Sleep
Naturally a bed has to fit a bedroom, with enough space to get in and out of the room easily. There should be sufficient space around the bed to open windows, closets and drawers easily, as well as the bedroom door. (Seems silly, but it’s easier than one might think to get a bed that’s too big to open the door).
For these reasons, a California King bed typically is found in the master bedroom of a home, since it is generally larger than other bedrooms. The main distinguishing characteristic of a California King is its dimensions: this bed measures 72 inches in width by 84 inches in length, or roughly 6 feet wide by 7 feet long. Considering a “standard” or “Eastern” king bed measures 76 inches wide by 80 inches long, you can see right away that if a room is somewhat narrow, a Cal King could be the perfect choice to provide the accessibility mentioned earlier.
Like other sizes of beds, Cal King beds come in various styles to match different home decorating schemes.
The Canopy Bed
The canopy bed, often known as a “four-poster”, is typically made of wood or metal and is topped by a suspended cloth. Canopy beds can be found in all types of decor styles from Contemporary to Traditional to Asian. It’s possible to buy the bed and the canopy separately so that the consumer can create a unique bedroom ensemble. Another alternative – provided the bed isn’t likely to be moved – is to affix rings to the ceiling and suspend the canopy above the Cal King bed. The advantage to a canopy bed is that it gives an exotic, luxurious air to the bedroom decor, along with giving the sleepers extra privacy when desired.
The Sleigh Bed
Another style for a California King bed is known as the “sleigh bed.” This term refers to an aesthetic design that began in France and cross over to America in the 19th century. A sleigh bed has a headboard that’s bigger than the footboard, and both are curved so that the overall design resembles a horse-drawn sleigh.
The Platform Bed
Many a California King bed serves as a platform bed. This style is just what its name means: a mattress placed on top of a wooden or metal platform. This type of bed has nox box spring, so it’s usually set very low and has a very Asian feel to it. However, some platform beds can be set higher to provide space for storage under the bed frame.
Whatever its style, a California King bed can provide lots of comfort.
